WSSA Takes the Fight to Court on 14 July

High Court Hearing Date Set for 14 July

The Western Springs Speedway Association (WSSA) can confirm that the High Court has now scheduled the Judicial Review hearing for 14 July. While this is not the final stage in the process, it represents a significant and necessary step toward holding Auckland Council and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU) accountable for the serious failures that have surrounded the speedway consolidation decision.

This milestone comes after months of delays and procedural hurdles, during which WSSA has continued to advocate for transparency, fairness, and proper process on behalf of more than 1,000 members and supporters.

Why This Matters — For Speedway and Beyond

Although several important stages remain between now and the hearing, the confirmation of a court date signals that the concerns raised by WSSA are being taken seriously at the highest level.
These concerns include:

  • Breaches of process under the Local Government Act
  • Fabricated or altered documents influencing decision‑making
  • Misrepresentation of Speedway NZ’s position
  • Lack of consultation with affected communities
  • Predetermined outcomes and private deals that bypassed proper scrutiny

These issues do not affect speedway alone. They highlight systemic problems that should concern every community group that relies on fair, lawful, and transparent governance from Auckland Council and its agencies.

A Warning Sign for All Community Organisations

The injustices exposed throughout this process — from ignored complaints to withheld information and questionable documentation — demonstrate how easily community voices can be sidelined when oversight fails.

The Judicial Review is not just about the future of Western Springs Speedway.
It is about protecting the rights of all community groups who depend on Council to act with integrity, honesty, and accountability.

What Happens Next

WSSA will continue to update members and supporters as further steps unfold in the lead‑up to the 14 July hearing.
There is still a long road ahead, but this confirmed date marks a crucial moment in ensuring that the truth is examined in full view of the Court.
